A descriptive, energetic, lyrical, and dramatically colorful suite for symphonic winds based upon five of the Grimm Bros. collection of fairy tales: “Rapunzel,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” “The Shoes that Were Danced to Pieces,” “Rumpelstiltskin, and “The Musicians of Bremen.”
The second movement in the Grimm Tales suite for symphonic band, this is a musical retelling of the story that features three strong areas of activity.
The fourth movement in the Grimm Tales suite for symphonic band in which the “Rumpelstiltskin” name is represented in a four-note solo flute motif, the King’s court as three trumpets, and low woodwinds and brass conjuring the devious imp.
The fifth and final movement in the Grimm Tales suite for symphonic band in which the four animals—the donkey, the dog, the cat, and the rooster—are each represented by their own instruments.
